A hospital built for Chishtian

Since 1998 this building on G Road has been where families of Chishtian and the surrounding villages come when someone is unwell. Its name is a promise, and the promise is to keep good care within reach.

Our story

Commenced in 1998. Always with you.

Iftakhar Memorial Hospital opened its doors in 1998, founded in memory of the family whose name it carries. It began as a place where a person could be examined properly without first finding transport to another city — and that remains the reason it exists.

What has changed is what a district hospital is expected to hold. A consultation is no longer enough on its own: it needs a laboratory that can confirm what the doctor suspects, imaging to see what an examination cannot, a pharmacy that actually has the medicine, and a bed for the patient who should not travel home that evening. Over more than two decades we have added each of those, on the same site, so that a single visit can finish the work a single visit ought to finish.

We remain a private hospital, independently run, answerable to the families who choose us rather than to anybody else.

The three words on our emblem are not decoration. They describe, in order, how we want a patient's visit to go.

Compassion

An unwell person is frightened before they are ill. We ask our staff to explain what is happening in plain Urdu or Punjabi, to answer the question actually being asked, and never to make a patient feel foolish for asking it twice.

Healing

Care should be judged on whether the patient gets better. That means testing when testing will change the answer, prescribing what is needed rather than what is expensive, and saying honestly when a case belongs at a larger centre.

Legacy

A hospital that carries a family name is meant to outlast the people who built it. We invest in the unglamorous things — records, equipment, trained staff — because they are what is still standing in twenty years.

“This hospital carries my family's name, and a name is a promise. Since 1998 we have tried to keep a simple one: that a family in Chishtian should not have to travel to another city to be examined properly, and should never be left guessing what was found or what it will cost.”
